Yiddish Lessons | Who Needs To Learn?

Yiddish Lessons.

Have you ever wondered what Yiddish sounds like? Certainly, it sounds more like German than any other language.

From my childhood I am very familiar with the sound of the Yiddish language. Because, Yiddish was the language of my paternal grandparents.

Have you ever wanted to learn Yiddish but never got around to it? In contrast, I was never taught the language. That in itself is strange. Don’t you think?

I digress, but I still do not understand why the Yiddish language did not permeate down through the generations after the mass Yiddish emigration from Europe.

As I look back to my youth I now regret not taking an interest in learning Yiddish. Certainly, one factor was my perception that my grandparents were not approachable.

One thing I do know and that is that neither of my grandparents who spoke Yiddish ever reached out to me. As a result, any curiosity I might have had towards the language of my ancestors was pretty much stifled.

Yiddish for Beginners is a playlist of lessons for those who want to dip their toe into the lost culture   and traditions of the past. So, press the play button.
